Jasper Collins says his buddy who lives on Valencia Street is taking liberties with the word tortilleria and may in fact be abusing the term. “He’s definitely saying it too much,” says Collins, who reports that the man has slipped tortilleria into several recent conversations. “Even when we’re not talking about food, he’ll be like ‘-that reminds of the first time I visited a real tortilleria,” Collins explained. He says his friend now looks down on mere taquerias, which don’t make their own masa, like tortillerias. “He wants it all done in-house,” Collins added.
