At the core of Daniel Lurie’s campaign was a pledge to dramatically reduce the amount of crustaceans strewn across San Francisco's sidewalks. But almost two years into his term, pedestrians say they are still navigating sizable quantities of prawns. "I counted two dozen – head-on – or at least one full story of a seafood tower," said Kim Pretino, who documented the incident in North Beach this weekend.
Lurie refused to comment, apart from stating that his street team had addressed the issue after receiving several reports. But Pretino says simply making the shrimp disappear does little to resolve residents' concerns. "We want to know how the shrimp got there in the first place, and how they could be left behind," she added. "Instead, we're being stonewalled by a mayor who refuses to admit he has a shrimp problem."
