Two people attempting to get to know each other are reportedly abandoning the effort after their chit-chat took a disastrous detour. "At one point, he attempted to alert me to the fact that it's colder or warmer in certain parts of the city 'because of microclimates,'" said Jess Terstle, recipient of the uninteresting remark. "Though apparently unable to help himself, it was clear that he realized this gambit was fatal."
Experts say that while it's key to be aware that conditions might vary depending on where you are in a coastal city with dramatic topography, presenting it as a notable discovery is a mistake. "That’s due to it being almost the first thing anyone notices about this place," said local meteorologist Hank Tang. "Around here, this topic is really just 'the weather.'"
Tang points out that all residents keep a protective upper-body clothing item with them at all times, which they put on or take off depending on what they're experiencing vis-a-vis this phenomenon. But he notes that the emergence of the microclimate concept in a social setting does have actionable value. "It means, frankly, that it’s time to go," Tang added. "Grab your anorak and get out of there."
